SF MOVIE ADAPTATION!
Deadline reports that space set 1970's television animated series STAR BLAZERS will be turned into a live action movie franchise in the vein of STAR WARS and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, which it originally had preceded on TV. To be produced by Skydance Productions, it will be set in a future in which Earth’s atmosphere has been obliterated by a distant alien race, and the survivors have one year before radiation will reach their underground refuge and wipe out the human race. The survivors get a shot of hope in the form of alien technology that can deliver a small crew across the universe and back with the means to stave off extinction.

THE PATH STREWN WITH ROSES

 MOVIE ON THE INSPIRING DESTINY OF SERBIAN PRINCESS OLIVERA DESPINA

Now, here's something historical which you probably won't be able to see around the world, but the story is interesting. A television movie THE PATH STREWN WITH ROSES is a Serbian project which mixes live action scenes with documentary narration. The movie describes the tragic, and yet deeply inspiring, destiny of famous Serbian princess Olivera, also known as Olivera Despina. After her father King Lazar was killed at the famous Kosovo battle in 1389, in which the Serbian army was trying to fend of the Turkish invasion, Serbian Queen Milica was forced to marry her daughter to new Turkish Sultan Bayezid. Even though the Turkish army has destroyed her country and killed her father, her cousins, her grandfather and countless Serbian soldiers, Olivera had to marry Bayezid in order to prevent the further destruction of her land and as a pledge of peace between her Lazarevic dynasty and the Ottoman dynasty. Deeply honouring her sacrifice, the people of Serbia had covered the roads that Olivera travelled through on her way to sultan's court with roses.

But when she got to the sultan's palace, the sultan, who was supposed to be her enemy, actually fell deeply in love with gentle, wise and profound princess Olivera making her his new wife and his favourite in the harem. She remained there for 12 years, managing to save her own country and to win over the heart of the man whose father has destroyed her family and her homeland. Even though she was married to the Turkish sultan she never converted to Islam remaining a Christian till her death. She had a great influence on the sultan, which helped her people, country, and family survive the turbulent times. In the Battle of Ankara in 1402, Olivera and Bayezid were captured by Mongol Khan Tamerlane. Legends say that in his love Bayezid couldn't stand seeing Olivera in captivity and he died from a broken heart. After his death, princess Olivera was actually released by Khan Tamerlane who  had a deep respect for her brother Despot Stefan, the ruler of Serbia, and she then spent the rest of her life at her brother's court in Serbia doing charity work, opening schools and hospitals deeply valued and respected by her people for her self-sacrifice and modesty.

Fresh news for all of you James Bond fans! Apparently the first secret auditions have started for a new Bond girl which will try to seduce agent 007 in JAMES BOND 24 movie! Earlier this summer, it was announced that SKYFALL's director Sam Mendes will return behind the helm and now there are rumours that stunning British model Kate Upton (naughty click) and British actress Helen Flanagan (click for delightful naughtiness) from CORONATION STREET are the first candidates to play the female role. It seems that this time they're going for blondes with extremely big boobs! Both girls have apparently tested for the role and we shall also see the return of Ralph Fiennes as M and Ben Whishaw as Q! Daniel Craig is, of course, taking the lead role again in the sequel which might be titled DEVIL MAY CARE and which is scheduled for November 2015!

Meanwhile, first WGN America's scripted series SALEM has found its lead actress. Tadanobu Asano plays Lord Kira, the Shogun's master of ceremonies and the one responsible for killing the Ronin's master. Rinko Kikuchi portrays Mizuki, a lady who serves Lord Kira and has special magical powers. Hiroyuki Sanada plays Kuranosuke Oishi, the leader of the Ronin. Kou Shibasaki is Mika, the slain master's daughter and Kai's love interest. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa plays the Shogun! Jin Akanishi is Chikara Oishi, Kuranosuke's son. Rick Genest is Savage!

 INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY

Epic adventure 47 RONIN is helmed by visionary director Carl Erik Rinsch (The Gift). Inspired by styles as diverse as Miyazaki and Hokusai, Rinsch will bring to life the stunning landscapes and enormous battles that will display the timeless Ronin story to global audiences in a way that's never been seen before.  While the film is based on the true story of the forty-seven ronin, it is a fantastical take, being set "in a world of witches and giants"! The film will tell a stylized version of the legendary story, mixing fantasy elements of the sort seen in 'The Lord of the Rings' saga, with gritty battle scenes akin to those in films such as 'Gladiator'. Costume designer Penny Rose has said that although the costumes are following the traditional style, the kimonos and other outfits will also have a fashion twist to them and will be very colourful. She previously worked on KING ARTHUR, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN and PRINCE OF PERSIAN SANDS OF TIME.

One of the exciting pieces of news this weekend came from 'Variety' which revealed that VIKINGS show star Travis Fimmel has become the main candidate for the lead role in WARCRAFT movie adaptation! The project will have four main characters, and Anson Mount and Anton Yelchin, alongside Colin Farrell have also been mentioned for the roles. Scheduled for December 2015 the adaptation of the famous video game with a rich fantasy setting that revolves around the epic conflict between the opposing forces of the Horde and the Alliance in a medieval like world filled with gryphons, dragons, zombies, werewolves and elves!

FEMALE 'EXPENDABELLES'

TO HAVE MERYL STREEP, CAMERON DIAZ, MILLA JOVOVICH

Well, we have already seen the revival of old forgotten action stars in EXPENDABLES franchise which has had Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean Claude Van Dame, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jackie Chan, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and others in the cast, and now producer Avi Lerner is moving on with the same thing but with female action heroines! Titled EXPENDABELLES, the film would see female action stars from the previous decades coming back from retirement for one last mission. According to first rumours, Lerner is negotiating with Meryl Streep, Milla Jovovich and Cameron Diaz to join this cast. While EXPENDABLES III should hit cinemas next August, EXPENDABELLES would start shooting some time early next year in Bulgaria. Other action ladies who could join the fun might include Linda Hamilton, Gina Davis, Michelle Yeoh, Sigourney Weaver!

As you people know, winter is usually the month for fantasy epics, and beside the long awaited THE HOBBIT THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG one of the biggest of the upcoming movies in the genre will be SEVENTH SON which hits cinemas January 17th! The fantasy spectacle is a loose movie adaptation of the first instalment in Joseph Delaney's best selling fantasy saga 'The Wardstone Chronicles', known in the US as 'The Last Apprentice'. As you can see in the trailer below, the film will feature enchanting sets, extravagant costumes, stunning battle scenes and some very naughty dragons!

Olivia Williams and Jason Scott Lee are also in the cast. The story is only vaguely inspired by the books as most of the characters, settings and general storyline have been edited and retain very few similarities with their novel counterparts.

A TROUBLED PRODUCTION

HUNGER GAMES and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN star Sam Claflin was originally supposed to play the lead role (after Alex Pettyfer bowed out of the project) which later on went to Ben Barnes from DORIAN GRAY and CHRONICLES OF NARNIA PRINCE CASPIAN. At the same time Alicia Vikander took the female role only after Dianna Agron, Jennifer Lawrence and Imogen Poots dropped out. The movie had problems during the production and was postponed, partly because a visual effects studio which worked on the movie had a bankruptcy and had to be saved by Universal Pictures. It will now premiere in January 2014 almost a year after its original release date.

One of our favourite stars from popular SPARTACUS epic show, Jai Courtney has new gigs: after starring in A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, next hear's horror movie I, FRANKENSTEIN and upcoming fantasy movie DIVERGENT with Kate Winslet, he will join Russell Crowe's directorial debut THE WATER DIVINER a WWI movie about an Australian father who travels to Turkey on a mission to find his three sons' bodies, who died during Gallipoli battle in World War I. Joining Russell and Olga Kurylenko, Jai will play a colonel who is tasked with identifying the thousands of soldiers killed at Gallipoli, and who reluctantly allows the father to conduct his search.

If you're in the mood for post apocalyptic movies here's a new one: 'Deadline' reports that WE'RE THE MILLERS producer has bought movie rights on DAY ONE sf book by Nate Kenyon. Set in the near future, the book details a journalist’s attempt to escape New York to rescue his pregnant wife and young son during the chaotic first 24 hours of a sentient computer takeover. The book has been published earlier this month by Macmillan.

And following the success of DOWNTON ABBEY, Amazon is preparing their own upstairs downstairs show GRAND AVE which will, set in 1910 Los Angeles, chronicle the explosive, overnight transformation of L.A. from small town to iconic American city. The show revolves around a powerful, ruthless family and explores how the destiny of a select few coincided with a major metropolis on the verge of its grand arrival.

The story of the new show will follow a hospital administrator and amateur sleuth (Octavia Spencer) who self-publishes her first mystery novel. Set in a day where sensational headlines inundate the news, this woman’s avid fascination with true crime leads her to become an active participant in the investigations.

Now here's a delightful project: Digital Spy reports that BBC is ready to start shooting their one hour TV film GANGSTA GRANNY based on David Walliams' bestselling novel. Famous Miss Marple Julia McKenzie will play the grandma whose grandson (Reece Buttery) becomes bored after coming to live with her.  However, she soon tells him the story of when she used to be an international jewel thief, before they join forces to complete the big heist she never completed. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS Joanna Lumley will play the Queen of England, with Miranda Hart and David Walliams playing his parents and Rob Brydon will play nosy neighbour Mr Parker, who could end up ruining the robbery plan.

Now here's an interesting script, and you know how much your trusted spy loves original movies: Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, 2009 Oscar winner, is preparing his English language movie debut. Titled THE LOBSTER, it will be a romantic science fiction drama in which the story centres around a group of people who are told to find respective partners, or they will be turned into animals. Set in a dystopian future, the single men and women are brought to a dark hotel before being handed the task.The cast has been gathered and it includes Ben Whishaw (JAMES BOND, HOLLOW CROWN), Lea Seydoux (BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOUR, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, click for her uncensored picture), Olivia Colman (THE IRON LADY, THE BROADCHURCH) and Jason Clarke (ZERO DARK THIRTY).

In short movie news, comedy action SKIPTRACE, which already has Jackie Chan and Bingbing Fan in the lead roles, has just added Seann William Scott to the cast as well. Based on Jackie Chan's idea the film follows Hong Kong detective Bennie Black who has been searching for crime boss Victor Wong for ten years. His search escalates when his young niece Bai (Bingbing Fan) gets herself into trouble with the crime syndicate, forcing him to call on an American Gambler named Connor Watts (Seann William Scott) to help him in his search. The producers are counting on the comedic chemistry between Chan and Seann.

Meanwhile, the latest news say that Tom Hardy has taken the lead role in ROCKETMAN, the biographical movie about Elton John! It was previously revealed that Elton John has imagined his biopic in MOULIN ROUGE movie style, with visual splendour and tones of his greatest hits which he will be rerecording for this occasion. It seems delightful and always funny Melissa McCarthy might get a superhunk for her partner in spy comedy SUSAN COOPER. 'Deadline' reports that British superstar Jason Statham might join the Paul Feig directed comedy in which the story revolves around an unlikely female secret agent, played by Melissa McCarthy. Jason Statham would portray a spy on the same side as the title character. Melissa McCarthy also has BUREAU OF OTHERWORDLY OPERATIONS (adventure about a secret government organization that protects humans from ghosts) and TAMMY (about a scorned women who takes a road trip with her drunken grandmother) on the list of her future projects.

NICOLE KIDMAN IN 'QUEEN OF THE DESERT'
Deadline also reports that Damian Lewis has joined Nicole Kidman in THE QUEEN OF THE DESERT.  Werner Herzog's movie focuses on the writer, explorer and archaeologist Gertrude Bell, who is credited with the formation of the Middle East in the early 20th Century. Damian Lewis will portray Lt. Colonel Charles Doughty Wylie, an unhappily married British soldier who starts a turbulent affair with Bell between 1913 and 1915, before he was killed in active duty at Gallipoli.
ROBERT HOFFMAN IN 'SONGBYRD'
In TV news, Robert Hoffman from BH 90210 has joined E! new scripted show SONGBYRD in which Bethany Joy Lenz from ONE TREE HILL will play  writer of hit love songs, who employs a small staff, including her sister Mickey (Rumer Willis), to enable and manage her eccentric yet wildly successful process. Hoffman will play Lauren’s creative affairs director who is helplessly in love with her, a fact she is clueless about. The show is based on the life of Diane Warren who wrote some of the biggest pop classics in history for Celine Dion, Toni Braxton...

And here's yet another new gig for Nicole Kidman. According to 'Variety' she will join two other big Australian stars Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce in STRANGERLAND which will be an Oz mystery drama about a couple whose teenage children go missing in the Outback. The shooting should start next year.

'LITTLE WOMEN' REMAKE

Meanwhile, Sony is looking to shoot a remake of famous movie adaptation LITTLE WOMEN which starred Christian Bale, Kirsten Dunst and Susan Sarandon back in the 90's. Louisa May Alcott's classic historical novel LITTLE WOMEN explores the lives of the four March sisters as the Civil War plays out in the backdrop.

ABC FANTASY SHOW 'BETA'
In TV news, Deadline reports that ABC will adapt Rachel Cohn's bestselling fantasy saga BETA into TV series. The story is set in the near future when clones have become the enslaved work force for the wealthy. But when a new Beta model is introduced and discovers the dark truth about her own origins, she also begins to uncover secrets and lies within the utopian island community she’s serving.
'HIERO- GLYPH' ANCIENT EGYPT SHOW
And it seems that after KING TUT upcoming show, we shall watch another one set in ancient Egypt: Fox has officially ordered 13 episodes of HIEROGLYPH, a fantastical historical adventure set in ancient Egypt, where fantasy and reality intertwined. It follows a notorious thief who is plucked from prison to serve the Pharaoh, navigating palace intrigue, seductive concubines, criminal underbellies and even a few divine sorcerers. The show comes from Travis Beacham who wrote CLASH OF THE TITANS and PACIFIC RIM.

The only trailer at the beginning of the week is a new one for animated adventure TARZAN which comes from the German producers with  Kellan Lutz lending his hunky voice to the main hero.  Following the adventures of the titular hero from his early childhood, when he is lost in the rainforest and taken in by apes, the film, which should open up in UK cinemas this January after already playing in Germany and Russia, then follows him as a grown man too, when he must fight off a ruthless corporation seeking to harvest a powerful energy source from his home.
